Three Reasons You Should Teach Your Children Hymns

Teaching right doctrine to children is just as important as teaching right doctrine to adults. Sure, children may not use big words like "sanctification" but they are certainly capable of exploring theological concepts in their own ways - by singing, by reading the scriptures in accessible language, by acting out the biblical stories, by coloring, by making sheep out of cotton balls... šŸ‘

And therefore...

Do NOT underestimate the power of HYMNS in teaching kids about God.

Yes, scripture too! Memorizing scripture verses should be a priority in children's ministry, whether at church or at home.

AND YET chances are they'll forget the memory verse or the Bible story BUT STILL sing the songs. That's because, scientifically speaking šŸ¤“ music has that superpower to transfer much faster into your long term memory.

Here are some hymns to help you start discussing right doctrine with your children:

šŸ‘‰ Holy Holy Holy - doctrine of the Trinity
šŸ‘‰ Take My Life And Let It Be - doctrine of sanctification
šŸ‘‰ How Great Thou Art - doctrine of creation

In other, more grown-up words, here are the three reasons why you should teach hymns to your children:

1. Hymns confirm scripture
2. Hymns stick in their long term memory with higher success rate
3. Hymns not only confirm, but they EXPLAIN scripture; they're miniature sermons.

Now I want you to imagine our future generation of Christian leaders FULLY IMMERSED in holy scripture, right doctrine, and solid hymnody. What would tomorrow's church look like?

Pssst: One way to make hymns part of your everyday life is to have a Spotify playlist run in the background, whether vocal or instrumental. Like this one.
