This advanced piano hymn arrangement reflects the dual dynamic of Palm Sunday – it oscillates between the majesty of Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem (the major sections) and foreshadows his crucifixion (the minor sections). The right hand plays the melody along with some harmony notes underneath while the left hand plays 1-5-1 patterns in eighth notes for the most part. Sometimes you will also hear strong block chords, which offer some textural variety to this arrangement. This tune also goes under another text in our hymnals – “I Sing the Mighty Power of God,” This means you can play it any Sunday during the year, not just on Palm Sunday :) Simply change the title in the bulletin and you’re good to go!
