O Sacred Head Now Wounded

$5.99

The hymn chorale “O, Sacred Head Now Wounded” (O Haupt Voll Blut und Wunden) was made popular by Johann Sebastian Bach. He featured it several times in his choral-orchestral work “St Matthew’s Passion.” In this piano solo arrangement I stayed very close to the harmonization we have in our hymnals, while still telling the story of the crucifixion – the first verse is played in the medium register (the way you’d normally accompany your congregation) then the second verse takes you in the lower register, at a slower tempo, and with minimal harmonization. As you get towards the end of this arrangement you can imagine Christ giving away his last breath on the cross. Suitable for church preludes, offertories or postludes, on Good Friday during Holy Week or any other service of the year when we commemorate the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus, such as communion services!
