O the Deep Deep Love of Jesus
This advanced piano hymn arrangement of the church hymn “O, the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus” features very powerful block and broken chords in each hand, which render a powerful, dramatic experience both for the performer as well as for the listener; the dramatic effect is mainly derived from the minor key and al the harmonic options that a minor key offers. On the first verse you will hear rhythmic tension between the right hand and the left hand, one playing in a 3-based meter while the other pulling away in a 2-based meter. Later, on the second verse the two hands will line up rhythmically and that will give both the performer as well as the listener a little breather. Moreover, the texture will feature another change – now the right hand plays an ostinato in the high register while the left hand provides us with the bass line and with the melody. Towards the end, this arrangement will resume its initial dramatic sound with the two hands playing large chords and octaves across the entire keyboard.
