Open My Eyes That I May See
This is the prefect piano hymn arrangement to play on Pentecost as the text explores the ways in which the Holy Spirit transforms our lives in order to be more like Christ. Throughout this hymn, the author invites the Holy Spirit to transform her life by opening her eyes, her mouth, her ears. Each stanza ends with “illumine me, Spirit divine!” May that be our motto every day of our lives! This piano arrangement is structured in three sections, one for each verse. In the first section the two hands begin in middle register and the voicing is straight-forward; the waltz-style rhythmic texture will give it a light bounce that will bring a smile to whoever plays or listens. On the second verse both the right hand and the left hand move to a higher register where the music becomes more gentle. At that time the right hand incorporates sixteenth notes in addition to the main melodic line in order to create a delicate subdivision pulse; think of a music box! Lastly, on the third verse we pull out all the stops! You will hear large leaps in the left hand between the bass and chords plus full chords and octaves in the right hand. This piano arrangement is suitable for church prelude, offertory or postlude on Pentecost or any other service of the year.
